What are seating templates?
Seating templates allow you to create room layouts ahead of time, allowing staff to quickly populate them with students when needed. This can save time and ensure consistency and accuracy across the school.
View and manage seating templates
🔒 The actions within this section are controlled by the Seating templates
permission.
To access seating templates, click on Tools > Apps > Seating.
At the top of the page, you can utilise our search bar and filters to locate and manage specific templates more easily.
You’ll see a list of any existing seating templates with the option to control which are active / inactive, as well as the ability to view, edit or delete a template.
Create a new seating template
Click the ‘Create’ button at the top right of the page.
Give your new template a unique name and assign it to a room before pressing ‘Save’.
💡 If you have not created any rooms yet, go to Tools > School > Rooms and create some there.
You’ll now see a canvas with a teacher’s desk square in the centre; time to start building your template!
Place your desks
Click ‘Desks’ at the top left of the screen and click one of the desk type stamps that appear on the right hand side of the screen (no need to click and drag!).
Stamp your seats individually or snap them close together to form a larger table - perfect for building your own custom desk shapes and making the room layout as realistic as possible.
💡 If you need to, zoom in or out using the options at the bottom left of your screen. If you get lost on your canvas, click the percentage to reset it to 100%.
When you’re done, press ‘Escape’ on your keyboard to stop stamping or click on the desk stamp again in the right hand menu.
You can update the desk layout at any point by moving the desks. Make sure to click on 'Desks' first to enter the desk edit mode.
Grab and hold any desk to drag it the desired location. Once you have moved all the desks you wanted to change, click Save on the desk sidebar to finalise your layout.
Populate your seats
Because we’re making a generic template there are no students to place in seats, however we can label certain seats if needed to ensure that students cannot sit there. For example, if a seat is inaccessible due tue equipment or if a seat is required for a learning support assistant.
Click on ‘Students’ to create a custom seat which you can click and drag onto a desk space. You can then choose an icon and name the custom seat so it’s clearly marked on the template and cannot be populated with students. Click ‘Done’ and save your changes.
When you’ve finished with your template and have saved any changes, click ‘Exit’ at the top left. You should now return to your list of Seating templates.
💡 Your navigation panel will have collapsed to give you more room; click the three horizontal lines at the very top left of your screen to expand this again.
