What are rooms?

Rooms allow you to define areas with the desired capacity which can be used for seating plans, detentions, and exams. These are separate to your ‘Location' lookups within Satchel One.

Rooms can be created manually or via scheduled data imports from your MIS or Timetabler.

View rooms

🔒 The actions within this section require the Rooms permission.

To view your school’s rooms, go to Tools > School > Rooms.

You’ll see a list of all existing rooms, including their active state. You can search for specific rooms by name using the search bar above the list.

Actions

  • Edit - Update room details

  • Active toggle - Deactivate a room to hide it in Seating and Exams

  • Delete - Permanently remove rooms you no longer need

Create rooms

Typically rooms are imported via the MIS/Timetabler, but you may want to add new ones.

  1. Go to Tools > School > Rooms

  2. Click Create

  3. Enter:

    • Room name - This is what staff will see

    • Short code - For internal use or quick reference

    • Capacity - The number of students that can be seated during lessons

  4. Click Save

The room will be immediately available to use across the platform.

Exam rooms

If you're using the Exams module, you can configure a room specifically for exam seating layouts.

To do this:

  1. Create a new room or Edit an existing one

  2. Enable the Exam room option

  3. Enter:

    • Rows (A → Z) - Number of rows of seats in the exam room

    • Columns (1 → 10) - Number of seats per row

  4. Click Save

This setup allows Exam officers to plan and allocate seating efficiently during exams.
