What are Sanctions?

The Sanctions feature allows your school to define and automate behaviour follow-ups based on patterns of student behaviour. Sanction rules can trigger recommended actions, such as detentions or referred incidents, helping staff enforce policies consistently and identify students who may require further support.

Sanctions dashboard

🔒 The actions within this section are controlled by the Sanction recommendations permission

To view and manage recommended sanctions, go to Behaviour > Sanctions. You'll see a list of pending recommendations triggered by your predefined rules.

You can sort the list by any column, and optionally filter by year group or class group. Each entry displays:

  • The day the recommendation was created due to one of your rules being triggered

  • The severity level which lets you prioritise higher-level incidents

  • The student; click on :info: to access more details and Welfare notes which can provide additional context about each pupil.

  • The reason of the behaviour event that triggered the sanction.

  • The number of occurrences and the timeframe, which reflect the relevant sanction rule

  • The type of Sanction: Detention or Referred incident.

🔔 If you’d like to receive an alert when a new sanction is recommended for a student, please go to your Account Settings > Manage Notifications section and select your preferred communication method for ‘Sanctions’.

Actions

  • Approve - Confirms the recommendation and creates the corresponding sanction (detention or referred incident)

  • Edit - Modify the sanction before applying it. For example, you can assign a different detention type or date.

  • Delete - Discards the recommendation without affecting the original behaviour event that triggered it.

When there are no pending recommendations, the page will show a confirmation message to indicate everything is up to date.

Sanctions setup

You can set up the Sanction rules that suit your school’s policies in Tools > Apps > Behaviour > Sanctions.
