Detention types setup

What are Detention types?

Detention types are templates that teachers can use when setting detention. They can define the right frequency, duration, and location according to school policy.

Detention types can be created manually or via scheduled data imports from your MIS via XoD and Wonde.

View detention types

To view your schoolโ€™s detention types, go to Tools > Apps > Detentions > Detention types.

Youโ€™ll see a list of all existing types, including their active state. You can search for specific types by name using the search bar above the list.

Actions

๐Ÿ”’ The actions within this section are controlled by the Detention type setup and Restricted detention type setup permissions

  • Edit - Update detention type details

  • Active toggle - Deactivate a template to hide it when creating detentions

  • Restricted toggle - Allow only staff with elevated rights to use these types

  • Delete - Permanently remove types you no longer need

Create detention types

๐Ÿ”’ The actions within this section are controlled by the Detention type setup permission

๐Ÿ’ก If your school is using Detentions Writeback with an external MIS, templates must be managed directly your MIS

  1. Go to Tools > Apps > Detentions > Detention types

  2. Click Create

  3. Enter:

    • Name

    • Location

    • Cover teacher

    • Schedule (daily, weekly, every two weeks, monthly)

    • Duration

    • Start time

  4. If advanced notice is required for a specific type, check the notice box and select the required time. This determines how far in advance the detention must be scheduled, especially for after school detentions.

  5. Click Save

The type will be immediately available to use with Detentions.
