What are behaviour reasons?

Behaviour reasons are used to assign behaviour points to students consistently. Each time a staff member records a behaviour event, they select from a list of reasons, each with an associated points value, ensuring your school’s behaviour policy is applied fairly and systematically.

Reasons can be created manual in Satchel One or imported from your MIS via Wonde or XoD.

🔒 The actions within this article are controlled by the Behaviour reasons setup, Restricted behaviour reasons setup

View reasons

To view your schools Behaviour reasons rules go to Tools > Apps > Behaviour > Reasons.

Switch between Positive and Negative tabs to browse different types. Each reason is listed with its current points value, active status, and whether it is restricted.

You can search for specific reasons by name using the search bar above the list.

Actions

  • Edit - Update the reason name or its default points

  • Active toggle - Deactivate a reason to hide it when logging new events

  • Restricted toggle - Restrict a reason so only users with elevated permissions can use it

  • Delete - Permanently remove reasons you no longer need

Create reasons

To create new behaviour reasons:

  1. Go to Tools > Apps > Behaviour > Reasons.

  2. Go to the Positive or Negative tab

  3. Click Create

  4. Enter the reason name

  5. Optionally define the default points value (recommended)

  6. Click Save

The reason will be immediately available to use when setting behaviour.

FAQ

Question

Answer

I’m trying to amend my school’s behaviour reasons but I’m seeing them as greyed out.

Please ensure that you have the relevant permissions enabled so you can access and amend the reasons. If your schools uses behaviour import or writeback, reasons can only be amended in your MIS and we’ll receive the changes after the next data import the following day.

I’ve added a new reason for my school but the teachers cannot see it.

If they’ve already refreshed their page, in case the changes were applied while they were on the behaviour list page, please ensure that the new reason is activated and not restricted.
