Why is there a new version?
We’ve listened to your feedback and have completely rebuilt Satchel One to provide a smoother, more reliable experience. The new version:
Fixes long-standing issues
Introduces a modern infrastructure for better performance and reliability
Gives schools more control over user access and permissions
Enhances behaviour management and data visualisation
Allows for faster development of new features and quicker bug fixes
Allows our Learning Platform and MIS to coexist and be updated in line with each other moving forward, without needing to be fixed or developed separately
What’s new so far?
We are in a constant state of development, but for schools moving from the old learning platform to the new version, there are some particularly exciting updates:
All new 'Roles' allow for granular control over user access and actions
Refreshed design with more intuitive layout
Improved Behaviour management and Insights
All new Seating plan system
What do we need to know before our migration?
We have given schools 'Early Access' so you can explore before your proper migration. We'll let main contacts and administrators know the official migration date in advance!
Before your migration, it's important to be aware of some key changes:
Who do these changes affect?
Changes to Satchel One currently only affect staff at your school; parents and students will not experience any change at this time.
Changes to roles and permissions
Click here to read our full article explaining the new roles and permissions system!
Every member of staff using Satchel One must be given a role with permissions
We'll make at least one member of staff at your school the 'Super Admin' which gives them complete access to all permissions across the site
We'll automatically give all staff at your school a standardised role ('Early Access') to help with your migration and provide them with the key functionality that most teachers need
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ADMINS: Colleagues who were 'Admin' users in Satchel One previously will NOT retain these rights in the new version; roles and permissions are completely replacing the concept of admins
Returning to 'Legacy' site
As we continue the migration of the full Satchel One site from old to new, there may be some areas where you are prompted to visit the legacy version of Satchel One in order to perform a specific action.
Accessing previously created Seating plans
Accessing some reports
Obtaining parent codes / generating login details en masse
In these cases, you'll see a banner at the top of the page with a link that you can follow; this will open in a new tab, allowing you to get what you need and then return to the new version of Satchel One.
When these functions become possible within the new version of Satchel One, we'll remove the banners!
Changes to Seating
Based on feedback from our schools, we have completely rebuilt our Seating app.
Because of the fundamental changes to how the feature is designed, it's not possible for us to convert your existing plans into the new format, but don't worry! In order to reduce disruption, you'll be able to access your historical plans until the end of the academic year.
Click the link in the orange banner at the top of your page to visit the original site.
We will be importing rooms from your MIS into Satchel One over the Easter holidays; there is no need to take action now and this is something you can explore over the summer term!
Changes to features
Some features will no longer be present in Satchel One, including:
Community Resources (replaced by Sidekick AI for AY 24/25)
Discussion feature
My Drive
Lesson Plans
Class Insights
