FAQs

Why was the new version released in term time rather than over summer?

As well as some initial setup being required by school admin staff, it was important for us that staff were able to familiarise themselves with the new system before the back to school period which is exceptionally busy. It also allowed us to receive feedback from users which we could implement over the summer break.

Why does it say I don't have the required permissions to perform a task?

Roles and permissions have been updated; if you need to be able to perform a task in Satchel One but can't due to restricted permissions, please contact your Satchel One administrators who can help.

Where is the calendar that used to be on the navigation panel?

Click 'Homework' on the navigation panel to see the Calendar tab. Use the filters to switch from 'My tasks' to 'All tasks' if you'd like to get the full school view, or refine by 'More filters' for a more specific approach.

Where are the tasks previously set by my colleagues and myself?

Click 'Homework' on the navigation panel and then select the Resources tab at the top. Use the filters (don't forget about 'More filters') to find the tasks you need in a much improved list format.

πŸ’‘ You can now access draft tasks before they're published! Go to 'More filters' and change the state to 'Draft'; this is a great way to access shared resources within your department ahead of time without needing to publish anything.

Where is Community Resources?

Community Resources has been replaced with free, unlimited access to our Sidekick AI homework helper. This means you can create fantastic and incredibly bespoke tasks in seconds without needing to search through large volumes of content. You can use it for Assignments, Classwork, Flexible Tasks, Quizzes and Spelling Tests πŸŽ‰

Remember that Community Resources previously allowed you to find tasks from other schools; you can still access everything you or your colleagues have ever made via Resources - don't forget to use the filters!

How do I reuse a task?

Click the circular arrow icon in the 'Actions' column of a task within Resources. Alternatively, open a task, click the options menu ( β«Ά ) at the top right and choose 'reuse'.

Where are my old seating plans?

Our Seating tool has been updated quite significantly, and last year it was important to give you access to the new tool as soon as possible; for this reason we introduced the new feature while initially allowing you to retain access to your historical plans until the end of the year (using the link in the orange banner).

Seating plans are archived at the end of every year by default, so it's time to start fresh now! When your new data has arrived in Satchel One (please don't create class specific plans until your data has rolled over), you can visit a class group, click on 'Seating' and create a new plan from there.

How do I create / manage custom classes for specific groups of students I want to communicate with?

You can create custom classes in Satchel One via Tools > School > Groups; we'd recommend using the type 'Custom Group'. If you don't have permission to take the action you need, please contact your Satchel One administrators for help.

If you want to edit / update the class members, you can do this via Groups too.

I'm struggling to set detentions now; what has changed?

When filling out the Detentions form, you can now add multiple students to the same detention event but for a variety of different reasons. You'll need to 'lock in' the details for one student / group of students before moving on to the next.

Example: I am setting a 'Lunchtime detention' where I add three students for being late to the class, two for being disruptive and one for using bad language. They're all going to be in the same type of detention, but the details are different.

  • Choose the detention type / details

  • Choose the date

  • Add your first student(s)

  • Select the reason for their respective detention(s) / add details

  • Click 'Done' to lock in the student(s) with that specific reason

  • Repeat for any other students with a different reason

  • When you've clicked 'Done' for all students, press 'Save' to finish.
