There are several ways to access the class register.
From the Dashboard
The quickest way to open the class register is via the agenda on the Dashboard. Today’s agenda includes:
A card for the AM and PM session if you are the main teacher of a registration group
A card for each lesson you are timetabled to teach today.
Clicking the attendance action from an agenda item will open the class register with the relevant column pre-selected.
From the Timetable
A similar action can be accessed from lessons on the Timetable. This is helpful when need to:
Access the register for a past date
View another staff member’s register
From a class
The class register can be opened via the student list of any class on Satchel One. Click the Attendance button just above the student list to jump into today’s register.
You can open the classes linked to yourself in the curriculum via My classes or find any active class using the 🔍 Quick search at the top right of your screen.

On the class register you’ll be able to see one column per session or period on the selected date. This includes an AM and PM session register along with any timetabled lesson periods.
If viewing a larger class, such as an entire year of students, the page may wrap into multiple pages. You can update the current page size using the selector just below the save button.
Just above the class register you can see a date selector that will let you change which date you’re viewing the registers for. The arrows will move you one day forward or backward and the today button will bring you back to the current date.

Once you’ve opened the register and selected the desired date, you can start entering attendance codes into the cells of the class register.
All entered codes will be matched against the list of codes as they have been customised by your school. If you want a refresher, right-click anywhere on the class register and select on Attendance codes to view the full list.
Marks previously entered into the grid will initially be greyed out to prevent overwriting marks entered by other staff members, such as the Attendance Officer. As you progress down the register, these cells will be skipped over to ensure you only update what is required.
If you need to edit these marks, you can either double-click on the cell to unlock it, or right-click with the cells you want to edit selected and click Edit to unlock them all at once.
Bulk entry
To quickly add marks to the grid, you can use the Mark remaining as present action in the right-click menu. This will add either the ‘/' or the '\’ mark into all cells that do not currently contain a mark, depending on wether the register belongs to the morning or the afternoon session.
Once you’ve entered all of your desired marks, make sure to click Save. You’ll be warned that content will be lost if you try to navigate away prior to saving.

For those schools using the Meals feature you can update student meal choices from the class register.
If you need to check which meal types are available at your school you can find this by right click on any cell of the meal columns and click Meal type details. Here you can check the code values of each type and see its full name.
Like with attendance marks meal choices can be updated by typing directly into the cells of the class register. Any input that doesn't match the code of one of the valid meal types at your school will be rejected.
Once you’ve updated all meal choices to the desired type make sure to save, you’ll be warned that content will be lost if you try to navigate away prior to saving.
